Začátek příběhu se odehrává na letišti a v mezinárodním rychlíku, kterým cestuje německý občan Otto Lang (J. Tomsa). Průvodčí (O. Pavelka) a jeho přítelkyně (V. Freimanová) řeší problém společného bydlení a zdá se, že průvodčí přišel k velkým penězům. Večer proběhne v blízké hospodě rvačka dvou mladíků. Druhého dne se poblíž trati najde mrtvola jednoho z nich. Vyšetřovatelé (R. Brzobohatý a K. Hlušička) však v lese narazí na další mrtvolu, tentokrát jde o neznámého muže. Snaží se vypátrat jeho totožnost a vztah mezi mrtvými. Začnou vyslýchat lidi, kteří měli tu noc v rychlíku službu. Narazí i na několik hotelových podvodníků. Pak se objeví další stopa – heroin nalezený u jiného německého občana. S každým novým faktem se pátrání zdá obtížnější….
