Movie
Roman Scandals
Synopsis
Eddie Cantor stars in the musical comedy in which he dreams he's back in ancient Rome and a food-taster slave for the wicked Emperor Valerius (Edward Arnold). He tries to reveal Valerius as an imposter fraud and gets involved in a wild chariot chase. There are plenty of musical numbers, many of them including the lovely Goldwyn Girls (with the then-unknown, Lucille Ball). This is mostly fun-filled and innocent, even though in one scene the Goldwynn Girls appear wearing nothing but blonde wigs!, Eddie Cantor, surrounded by Goldwyn Girls, in a travesty on ancient Rome, embellished with Busby Berkeley numbers. Olga: Ruth Etting. Sylvia: Gloria Stuart. Empress Agrippa: Verree Teasdale. Emperor Valerius: Edward Arnold. Josephus: David Manners. Good songs. Frank Tuttle directed.
