Mit dem "Drahtfunk im Amerikanischen Sektor" fing es nach dem Krieg an, daraus entstand der "Rundfunk im amerikanischen Sektor", der RIAS. Dieser Sender war viele Jahre die wichtigste tägliche Informationsquelle für die Berliner und die Bewohner der Sowjetisch Besetzten Zone, später der DDR. Der RIAS war ein Radio im geteilten Deutschland, über Zonen- und Sektorengrenzen hinweg, und ein Sender im Kalten Krieg. Anfangs wurde er ausschließlich finanziert von der US Informacion Agency, geleitet wurde er von amerikanischen Direktoren.
