Movie
Ramchand Pakistani
Synopsis
In the spring of 2002, as hundreds of thousands of Indian and Pakistani troops stare at each other across the border, a low-caste Pakistani Hindu boy, Ramchand (played as a youngster by Syed Fazal Hussain, as an adult by Navaid Jabbar), and his father Shankar stray across the border and onto Indian territory, where they are captured and incarcerated for years. Meanwhile, back in Pakistan, Ramchand's mother Champa (Nandita Das) must deal with the trauma of the disappearance of her son and husband. Based on real events, Ramchand Pakistani is the story of a family divided and caught between hostile governments, a looming war and bureaucratic red tape. Written and produced by former Pakistani senator and cabinet minister Javed Jabbar and directed by his daughter Mehreen Jabbar, who introduces the film, Ramchand Pakistani is one of the most important films to come out of Pakistan this decade. In Urdu and Hindi with English subtitles. Premiere.
