Synopsis

A race of fire-wielding mutants called the Burnish appears, engulfing half the world in fire. Thirty years after the historic event, a new group of dangerous mutants arrives to make their mark on the world. An intense battle then erupts threatening to destroy everything., Director Hiroyuki Imaishi's science fiction anime film unfolds in a futuristic, alternate reality where a firefighting mecha service (Burning Rescue) is routinely used to control and suppress a group of pyrokinetic mutants (the Burnish). A hotshot firefighter eventually finds himself torn between professional duty and a newfound empathy for the leader of a Burnish terrorist group.
