O lásce a stáří, nemoci, smrti a starostech všedního dne vypráví s humorným nádechem dramatický příběh Karla Svozila, stárnoucího profesora dějin výtvarného umění. Do života moudrého a kultivovaného muže a jeho milostného vztahu k mnohem mladší Aleně nečekaně zasáhne diagnóza rakovinového nádoru, která ho dovede až k úvahám o sebevraždě.
