En 1924, le Britannique George Mallory et son associé, Andrew Irvine, tentaient pour la troisième fois de conquérir l'Everest. Il ne sont jamais revenus. Pourraient-ils avoir été les premiers à réussir l'ascension, avant de trouver la mort ? En 1999, le géologue allemand Jochen Hemmleb découvre le cadavre de Mallory, juste en-dessous du sommet, relançant les spéculations. En 2010, il monte une nouvelle expédition pour prolonger cette découverte sensationnelle. Son objectif : trouver le camp de base d'où Mallory et Irvine sont partis à la conquête du sommet.
