Movie
Peter and the Wolf
Synopsis
To mark the 70th anniversary of the work, Channel 4 presents a new animated film version of Prokofiev's timeless children's classic, Peter and the Wolf . Directed by BAFTA-winning director Suzie Templeton, the film uses stop-motion, an animation technique made popular by Wallace & Gromit, and is set to a new recording by the world-renowned Philharmonia Orchestra. Together they bring this mesmerising work, loved by over five generations of children, to the screen on Christmas Day. The animation was premièred, with live orchestra, at the Royal Albert Hall this autumn. Peter, an orphan, lives on the edge of a deep forest, guarded by his over-protective grandfather. Isolated and ignored by other children, Peter's only friends are his pet duck and a mischievous bird. Together they entice him to seek adventure in the outside world. But out in the forest predators lurk in the shadows. The Wolf is on the prowl and quick to spy his lunch, in the shape of Duck. In a frenzied scuffle, Duck is caught and devoured. But boys like Peter are not afraid of wolves. With the help of Bird he finds the extraordinary courage to avenge his friend and capture the Wolf.
