Patch Adams
Synopsis
This film tells the true story of Patch Adams. Medical student Adam's philosophy of "treating the patient, not the disease" creates both allies and foes at the University of Virginia Medical hospital. As Adams himself overcomes serious depression, he eventually opens his own clinic, gaining notoriety as the "people doctor.", The remarkable story of a doctor who uses the power of laughter to heal. Despite (or perhaps because of) the success of his methods he finds that the medical establishment is not amused. The character is based on the real Hunter 'Patch' Adams who has devoted his life to treating the 'whole patient'. Nothing is too much trouble for Patch - on one occasion he fills a room with balloons to raise his patient's spirits.
