Synopsis

Kevin Costner directs the old-fashioned Western Open Range, based on the novel The Open Range Men by Lauran Paine. Set across the Great Plains in the late 1880s, the story involves Boss Spearman (Robert Duvall) and Charley (Costner), a pair of cattle-driving wanderers who live free on the range. They are aided by a troubled Mexican boy nicknamed Button (Diego Luna) and kind brute Mose Harrison (Abraham Benrubi). The bad guy is Denton Baxter (Michael Gambon), a greedy cattle rancher and landowner who has taken over the town of Harmonville with his band of thugs. After Boss and Charley get into a fight with some of his men, Button is severely wounded and in need of medical attention. At the doctor's house, Charley meets love interest Sue Barlow (Annette Bening). The conclusion finds the cattle drivers in a final showdown with the evil landowners.
