How Long Is “One Good Turn”?

Matt Forrest believes he is living the American Dream. He has a beautiful wife, Laura, a successful company, and a great home. He appears to have a perfect life, But does he? A strange twist of fate brings Matt face to face with Simon Jury, the man who saved his life twelve years ago in Panama. Matt attempts to thank Simon but the strange 'rescuer' appears uncomfortable and quickly departs. Wanting somehow to repay the man who saved his life, Matt tracks Simon down through a detective and learns that the unfortunate man is living in squalor. Matt ignores Laura's misgivings about Simon and soon has him living in their guesthouse and working in his company. In his efforts to fulfil a moral obligation to the man who saved his life Matt does not see Simon as he really is. Simon's presence serves to further weaken a marriage already in trouble. Laura has recently terminated one affair, and is now drawn to Simon, who uses to his advantage the fact that Matt has a serious problem with alcohol. The facade of this happy marriage is about to give way, thanks to the insidious presence of the strange but charming Simon.
