Movie
Objective, Burma!
Synopsis
Raoul Walsh's Second World War drama stars Errol Flynn as US Army Captain Nelson. Nelson and his men are parachuted into the jungles of Burma to destroy a Japanese radar station that has been relaying details of the movements of Allied aircraft. The operation is a textbook success and the radar station is soon destroyed. But then comes the difficult part: Nelson must get his men out of the country; and the airstrip they were due to be collected from has been discovered by Japanese troops. Ahead of the American soldiers is a long, brutal hike, and they must fight for every step. The film outraged Winston Churchill with its wilful omission of Britain's role in Burma, so much so that it wasn't allowed a UK release until 1952.
