Movie
O'Horten
Synopsis
Train engineer Horten has been forced to retire after 40 years of travelling a very stable rail, and the platform does not feel like a safe place anymore. His orderly, solitary existence is about to give way to a future of unlikely adventures and puzzling dilemmas: will Horten ever travel by plane? Will he finally sell his prized boat? How does Horten end up in a pair of women's red high-heeled shoes?, This beautifully shot, whimsical deadpan comedy-drama from Factotum director Bent Hamer kicks off Channel 4's latest short season dedicated to some of the best movies from around the world that have been released in recent years. Odd Horten (BÃ¥rd Owe) has spent his working life driving trains between the Norwegian cities of Bergen and Oslo, but now the time has come for the sexagenarian to pack away his uniform and retire from the service. After saying farewell to the man he lodges with in the country's second city, he heads home to the capital to attend his retirement party, arranged by friends and colleagues. But he manages to get lost on the return leg and finds that, having left the railway behind, his life also goes unexpectedly off the rails, in a series of somewhat surreal mini-adventures replete with eccentric characters. Norwegian with English subs. M,W,S.
