Movie
Niagara
Synopsis
A Technicolor "film noir" (and that's not a contradiction in terms), Niagara benefits immensely from 20th- Century-Fox's decision to film on location at Niagara Falls. Disturbed war-vet George Loomis (Joseph Cotten), vacationing at Niagara with his slatternly wife Rose (Marilyn Monroe), knows that Rose is unfaithful. What George doesn't know is that Rose and her boyfriend Patrick (Richard Allen) plan to kill him. The plan gets bollixed up, and it is George who ends up killing Patrick. To cover up her complicity in the murder, Rose pretends that the body she identifies in the morgue is that of her husband. But honeymooner Polly Cutter (Jean Peters), who with husband Ray (Casey Adams) is staying in the tourist cabin adjacent to Rose's, insists that she's seen George lurking about. The authorities refuse to believe Polly -- worse luck for Rose, who is tracked down and strangled by George. He tries to escape in a motorboat, with Peters inadvertently on board. The boat runs out of gas, drifting dangerously towards the surging falls. At the last moment, Cotten rescues Peters, but is himself killed when the boat tumbles over the falls and is dashed to bits on the rocks below.
