Synopsis
This is the most popular film in Indian history. The story contains a Marxist message with a distinctly Indian twist as it tells the story of a rural mother who loses her husband in a farming accident. Now she and her sons must fight to survive and overcome the obstacles presented by a despotic landlord. One of the brave mother's sons becomes an outlaw until the courageous matriarch intervenes and kills her own son.
