Der genussfreudige Marmeladenfabrikant Anton Breitenbach wird von seiner Frau Adelheid mit besonders gesunder Kost abgespeist. So strapaziert sie zunehmend den verwöhnten Gaumen ihres Gatten. Anton hat die häuslichen Kochkünste bald satt und findet einen gewitzten Ausweg - wie er zunächst meint. Als Grund für seine heimlichen kulinarischen Eskapaden auswärts behauptet er, nun ein umjubelter Boxer zu sein. Dafür "borgt" er sich die Identität seines Namensvetters und tatsächlichen Meisterboxers Breitenbach. Als dieser für einen Kampf in die Stadt kommt, droht Antons Schwindel jäh aufzufliegen.
