It's non-stop action with Eddie Murphy as the fast talking San Francisco Police negotiator who is hunting for the man who killed his mentor in this pacey thriller. Scott Roper (Murphy) is trained to talk his way out of any situation, and his combination of experience, quick thinking and courage bordering on insanity make him the best there is. When his mentor is killed by vindictive jewel thief Michael Korda (Michael Wincott) he is determined to bring the killer to justice, even after being taken off the case. At the same time he has a new partner to introduce to the mean streets of San Francisco, and he is trying to win back his beautiful girlfriend Ronnie (Carmen Ejogo), who has left him for a basketball player. His love may bring her more pain than joy however, as Korda is determined to murder everybody Roper loves, starting with Ronnie..
