How Long Is “Me You Them”?

A woman decides that she needs more than one husband to make her happy in this sensuous comedy from Brazil. Darlene (Regina Case) is a single mother who returns to the town of her birth to attend the funeral of her mother. While Darlene has no husband, that's a matter of accident rather than design, and when Oasis (Lima Duarte), one of her late mom's neighbors, suggests that they could marry, she agrees as a matter of convenience. Oasis proves to be no bargain as a husband, and after the birth of her second child, Regina is nearing the end of her rope when Oasis' cousin Zezinho (Stenio Garcia) shows up. Zezinho is quite taken with Regina, and she with him, and soon she gives birth to a third son (who looks a great deal like Zezinho) while he tends to the cooking and cleaning. While Zezinho and Oasis struggle to maintain a balance in the household, Regina adds even more variety to the mix when she invites a handsome farm worker, Ciro (Luis Carlos Vasconcelos), to dinner -- and he never ends up going home. Me, You, Them was shown in the "Un Certain Regard" category at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.
