Synopsis

Black comedy based on Roald Dahl's novel about a young girl with magical powers. Matilda's parents are so obsessed with game shows that they fail to notice their daughter's genius. Instead, they send her to a prison-like boarding school where the fearsome headmistress makes Matilda's life even more of a misery. There she discovers her magical abilities and sets out to get even with the grown-ups who have mistreated her. (Including five News Update), Matilda is an extraordinary girl of wondrous intelligence. Unfortunately, her mentally deficient parents Harry and Zinnia Wormwood, barely even take notice of her existence. When they finally send Matilda to school, it's too Crunchem Hall, a bleak prison of a school where students cower before the monstrous principal Trunchbull. Amid Crunchem's darkness, Matilda finds a single light in warmhearted Miss Honey, the first-grade teacher who recognizes and nurtures the girls' remarkable powers, including a special ability to turn the tables on the wicked grown-ups in her world.
