Synopsis

This dramatic critique of the modern media is raised above its less-than-original premise by confident performances from Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta. Travolta is Sam Baily, an everyman museum guard who is driven to taking guns and dynamite into the museum in order 'to get attention' from his boss. The result is a hostage situation with Sam the unwilling captor and, among those captured, a disenfranchised newsman, Max Brackett, who sees his chance to hit the headlines once again by manipulating the gullible Sam to create a national media frenzy.
