Movie
M. Butterfly
Synopsis
Adapted from his own stage play by writer David Henry Hwang, M. Butterfly is the re-telling of a 'true story' that held France rapt when it was first revealed. A French diplomat entered into an affair with a member of the Peking Opera. Unknown to him, the woman with whom he fell in love was, in fact, a man impersonating a woman - a skilled actor of the opera who may have enjoyed some form of emotional love with the Frenchman, but was also encouraged to use pillow talk to extract embassy secrets from his lover for the Chinese Secret Services.
