Synopsis
Landmark neo-realist film in which writer/director Luchino Visconti adapted Giovanni Verga's novel "I Malavoglia" to the lives contemporary fishermen in Sicily. Working with a non-professional cast of locals, he depicts the lives of the poor fishing village of Aci Trezza and their hopeless fight against exploitation by the Italians who control the fishing market. Cinematography by G.R. Aldo.
