Synopsis
Rowan Atkinson stars in Peter Howitt's broad-humoured thriller spoof as the monumentally incompetent espionage agent Johnny English (Atkinson). English is the last man standing at MI7 when, thanks entirely to his own idiocy, the rest of the UK's secret service agents are assassinated en masse. This leaves the government with no choice but to assign English with the most pressing task of the day - ensuring the safety of the Crown Jewels. These have only just been restored to their full majesty by Pascal Sauvage (John Malkovich), a French prisons magnate, who also installed the impregnable security protecting them. However, the royal bling is stolen the moment English assumes guardianship. English sets out to recover the national treasure and capture the crime's perpetrators. Thankfully, the blundering buffoon's long-suffering sidekick Bough (Ben Miller) is on hand to right the trail of disaster English leaves in his wake. But who is the beautiful Lorna Campbell (Natalie Imbruglia) who pops up at every turn?, When all his fellow agents are killed, blundering Johnny English is promoted from lowly pen-pusher to superspy, and immediately finds himself in the middle of a mission to recover the stolen crown jewels and save Britain from an evil mastermind. He is baffled when clues lead to a respected entrepreneur - could the enigmatic Lorna hold the key to the mystery?, Rowan Atkinson stars in Peter Howitt's broad-humoured thriller spoof as the monumentally incompetent espionage agent Johnny English (Atkinson).
