Bauingenieur Berger sucht seine Mutter und erfährt, dass sie gestorben ist und zuletzt in einem Heim der berüchtigten Baufirma Huberty war. Als kurz darauf der Firmenchef Huberty Opfer eines Mordanschlags wird, fällt der Verdacht auf Berger, Doch der Tod Hubertys hängt zusammen mit dem betrügerischen Bankrott der Baufirma. Als Täterin wird die Ehefrau des Chefs überführt. Eine unangenehme Überraschung erwartet den Hamburger Bauingenieur Berger, als er nach jahrelanger Arbeit in Mexiko in seine Heimat zurückkehrt: seine Mutter ist verschwunden. Ihre Spuren verliereb sich in einem "Seniorenheim" der Huberty-Gesellschaft. Berger vermutet, das seine Mutter einem Verbrechen zum Opfer gefallen ist.
