Synopsis
Photojournalist-turned-filmmaker Dan Habib explores the concept of educational and social inclusion of youth with disabilities as a civil rights issue in this documentary centered largely on his personal experience as the father of a disabled boy named Samuel. Concerned that young Samuel may not be included in school and community activities as readily as his able-bodied peers, the filmmaker and his family make a concerted effort to ensure that their child never feels excluded due to his disability. As Samuel's tale unfolds, Habib also explores the experiences of four other families who have dealt personally with the issue of inclusion. Additional interviews with teachers, students, parents, and disability rights advocates offer compelling insight into an issue that has been increasingly prevalent among educators as classroom sizes continue to grow, and experienced teachers remain in high demand.
