In Her Shoes

Two sisters must set aside their differences to share a surprising discovery in this drama. Maggie Feller (Cameron Diaz) and her sister, Rose (Toni Collette), are two siblings who have practically nothing in common beyond sharing the same shoe size. Maggie is beautiful but was never good in school due to dyslexia, and over the years has learned to use her looks and her charm to get what she wants, at the expense of what others think of her. Rose, on the other hand, is a successful lawyer but has never had much luck in love and has serious self-respect issues. When Maggie finds herself evicted from her apartment, she turns up on Rose's doorstep; Rose grudgingly takes in her sister, but a few uncomfortable weeks together end when Maggie seduces Rose's boyfriend. Maggie once again finds herself on the street until she makes a surprising discovery -- while she and her sister had long believed that their grandmother Ella (Shirley MacLaine) was dead, it turns out she's alive and well and living in Florida. Based on the best-selling novel by Jennifer Weiner, In Her Shoes marked a change of pace for director Curtis Hanson, best known for his taste in hard-edged dramas such as 8 Mile and L.A. Confidential.
