Synopsis

"Regret to Inform" explores the horrors of the Vietnam war from the perspective of war widows from both sides of the conflict. The stories in this Oscar-nominated 1999 documentary are both heartbreaking and horrific. Among them: a Vietnamese woman who turned to prostitution after her husband's death, and an American who was told to pray for her husband's death after learning the extent of his injuries. Filmmaker Barbara Sonneborn's own husband was killed in Vietnam in 1968.
