Le tre cime di Lavaredo offrono la concentrazione più impressionante di pareti strapiombanti di tutto l'arco alpino. Alla fine degli anni '50 la sfida tra gli alpinisti europei per assicurarsi le prime salite sulle ultime pareti ancora vergini era viva e combattuta.
