סיפור אהבה טראגי בין בחור ישיבה רוחני לנערה חולת סרטן, המנהלים רומן בלתי אפשרי, הבוחן את גבולות האהבה, האמונה והמסירות האנושית. יוחאי (איתמר רוטשילד) ואיילת (קרן ברגר) משתייכים לחברה הדתית לאומית. בשונה מסיפורי-עלילה אחרים שתי הדמויות מגיעות מלב החברה ולא משוליה, הם אינם מתלבטים או שואפים לצאת מגבולות החברה והדת, אלא מאמינים ומסורים אליה. העלילה מסופרת מנקודת מבט רטרואקטיבית של יוחאי כעבור 30 שנה (רני בלייר). סיפור האהבה מתאפשר באופן פרדוכסלי דווקא בשל העובדה שאיילת נוטה למות, אשר על כן הקשר מתפתח כתמיכה רוחנית, ולא כרומן אסור. עם התפתחות העלילה, הגבולות שההלכה מציבה בפני יוחאי ואיילת וההתמודדות עימם, יוצרים עולם מלא סתירות, דרכו בוחן הגיבור מחדש את עצמו ואת עולם ההלכה בו הוא חי.
