台北電影節首映，入選2016年台北電影獎紀錄片，台灣第一部關於「八重山台灣人」的紀錄電影，本片以一大家族之生命軌跡，爬梳「八重山台灣人」八十年滄桑歷史，跨越八十年家族親情，展現人生最後一趟返鄉之旅。《海的彼端》由旅日導演黃胤毓製作，記錄的便是玉代家族的故事。為了生存，日治時期一群台灣農工決定離鄉背井，前往距台灣三百公里外的邊陲島群——日本沖繩八重山諸島打拼，本名王玉花、現定居石垣島的玉木玉代阿嬤便是其中一位。在80年的移居歲月裡，玉木阿嬤等台灣移民不僅受到日本人歧視，更以無國籍政治難民的身份生活長達三十年，所幸憑藉著優異的鳳梨種植技術，撐起當地農業的一片天，迎來幸福晚年。如今，玉木家走過大歷史的洪流，如今一百多人的家族重圓，兒女們計畫著帶身體日漸衰弱的老母親，最後一次重返戰前的家鄉：台灣。距台灣三百公里的沖繩八重山諸島，戰前因農業開墾徵召來的台灣移民，經歷了二戰強制遣返與兩地動盪，而後在美軍統治沖繩時代下度過無國籍的三十年。2015年初春，子孫已過四代的玉木家族，隨母親最後一次返鄉旅程，重新踏上一趟未曾有過的追尋記憶之旅。.
