Synopsis
Leslie Woodhead and Bud Greenspan's part documentary, part drama is the story of the world's greatest long-distance athlete Haile Gebrsellasie. The documentary side follows him metre by metre in his run for gold in the 10,000m at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, shot by Greenspan, a veteran of Olympic camerawork But intercut is the story of how Gebrsellasie, the son of a poor farmer in southern Ethiopia, never gave up on his dream of becoming a great athlete. It shows his strength of personality but also his humanity and the closeness of family as he struggled for success. But as well as telling a story, the film is also superbly shot and edited throughout, capturing Gebrsellasie's spirit and strength to offer a unique portrait of a great athlete.
