Dishonored Lady
Synopsis
In this complex drama, a depressive magazine executive must stand trial for killing her former boy friend. Her ordeal actually begins years before when she is referred to a psychiatrist after attempting suicide. Her doctor advises to leave her stressful job and start anew. She takes the advice, changes her name and moves to Greenwich Village to become an artist. There she meets and falls in love with a handsome scientist. They decide to marry, but before the big day, he must go on a business trip. That night, the woman goes to a nightclub and finds her former lover, a prominent jeweler. They drink a bit and she goes to his apartment. The doorbell rings, she reconsiders her actions and quietly sneaks out the back door. Meanwhile, the jeweler answers the door and has a heated discussion with a repentant employee who admits to have stolen a few jewels and begs the jeweler not to tell the cops. The jeweler insists on calling the law and in desperation the employee kills him. Unfortunately, witnesses saw the woman entering and surreptitiously leaving the apartment, and therefore she is arrested for the crime. During the trial, her scientist learns more about her than he wanted to know and abandons her, leaving her to become dangerously depressed. Her doctor returns. He believes she is innocent and decides to help her out as best he can.
