In 1940 is de tweede wereld oorlog in volle gang. Hitler verovert vooral gebied ten oosten en zuiden van Nazi Duitsland. De Fransen wanen zich redelijk veilig achter hun Maginot linie en achten een aanval door de "onbegaanbare" Ardennen onmogelijk. Begin mei stuurt Hitler zijn pantser eenheden onder leiding van Erwin Rommel echter dwars door de Ardennen om met zijn succesvolle Blitzkrieg tactiek de Fransen compleet te verrassen. Juist op dat moment bevinden zich maar liefst 200.000 Engelse van het expeditieleger zich in Noord Frankrijk. Zij worden ingezet om de Fransen bij de verdediging te helpen. Al snel blijkt echter dat ze kansloos zijn tegen het oppermachtige Duitse leger.
