Als molenaarszoon Jaap alles kwijtraakt wat hij had, kan hij nog maar op één vriend vertrouwen: zijn gelaarsde Poes. Samen trekken ze door het dwergstaatje Biechtenstein, op zoek naar eten en werk. Door de slimme en onnavolgbare streken van Poes weten de twee in no time het vertrouwen van de koning te winnen en zich een plek aan het hof te verwerven. Maar is alles wel zo mooi als het lijkt?
