Washed-up country star Bad Blake gets one last shot at love and life, but can he stay off the booze long enough to clean up his act?, Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal star in Scott Cooper's music drama-romance, based on Thomas Cobb's novel. Bad Blake is approaching 60 and has a string of marriages and a successful career as a country music star behind him. His life now consists of little more than travelling alone from town to town to play in small bars, staying in dingy motels and enthusiastically imbibing a regular supply of alcohol. Then he meets journalist and single mother Jean Craddock, who is initially interested in him as a potential story, and it's not long before sexual chemistry develops and they become a couple. She encourages him to contact his former protégé Tommy Sweet, who's now a big star, and possibly resurrect his own career. But his battle with the booze isn't over, and threatens to block his road to a new life.
