Synopsis
Sylvester Stallone puts in an acclaimed performance as the sheriff of the small town of Garrison, New Jersey, home for a group of corrupt New York cops who find themselves under investigation in this richly characterised thriller. Freddy Heflin is a small town sheriff who is in awe of the many New York cops who live in, and effectively run, his town, led by Uncle Ray (Harvey Keitel). He is forced to re-evaluate his opinion of these men, and of his own worth, when Internal Affairs officer Moe Tilden (Robert De Niro) comes to town and tries to recruit him into an investigation into their activities. Tilden is convincing, but the question remains, will the exhausted and self-loathing Heflin find the moral courage to battle the very people he has revered for so long, or will his apathy and world-weariness prove unconquerable? Either way, it will prove a difficult journey.
