Castro

Alejo Moguillansky turns Samuel Beckett's novel Murphy into a post-modern action film in this offbeat comedy-drama from Argentina. Castro (Edgardo Castro) is a nervous man who has earned the wrath of two women, his former wife Rebecca (Carla Crespo) and his current girlfriend Celia (Julia Martínez Rubio). Rebecca resents the fact their marriage broke up and she doesn't want Castro to be with anyone else. Celia, on the other hand, insists that Castro get a job if they're to stay together, something that runs counter to his personality and philosophy. As Castro tries to figure out a way to placate Celia without going to work, he discovers he has bigger problems at hand -- Rebecca is tired of being ignored by her ex and hires second-rate wise guy Acuna (Esteban Lamothe) and his henchmen Samuel (Alberto Suarez) and Willie (Gerardo Naumann) to find Castro and bring him to her. Castro discovers Acuna and his pals may not be great at what they do but they're determined, and soon he's leading them on a wild chase through the streets of Buenos Aires. Castro was an official selection at the 2009 BFI London Film Festival.
