Movie
Bull Durham
Synopsis
Each spring Annie Savoy, the town's most fervent fan, selects a member of her local team, the Durham Bulls, to educate both in her bed and on the playing field. This season, Annie's choice of a designated lover has narrowed down to two candidates: Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh, a wild young athlete with "a million-dollar arm and a five-cent head," and Crash Davis, the smart and cocky veteran assigned to educate him. Crash's best playing days are behind him. After a 12-year career, Crash thought he had been through it all. But arriving in Durham, North Carolina, Crash learns he's been brought in to train a hot-tempered rookie, Nuke LaLoosh. Nuke is destined for big things-if only he can learn to control his throwing arm and his libido!, Every year baseball groupie Annie chooses one player to teach, on and off the diamond. The lucky man usually has the best year of his career. But will it be veteran catcher Crash or young hotshot Nuke?, A blend of comedy, drama and romance, Bull Durham follows the intertwining of three lives brought together by the great American pastime. Crash Davis (Kevin Costner, showcasing his Midwestern charm) is a perennial Minor Leaguer assigned to the Durham Bulls, a hapless team with a long tradition of mediocrity. There he tutors a young, dim-witted pitching prodigy, Nuke LaLoosh (Tim Robbins) in the ways of baseball, life, and love. Each strikes up a romance with Annie (Susan Sarandon), the team's "mascot" who takes it upon herself to sleep with a new player every season. Each has his/her own conflict: Crash struggles to end his career with some measure of dignity; Nuke struggles to make it to the "big show"; and Annie struggles to find something more than a roll in the hay -- and of course, Crash and Nuke come into conflict over Annie's affections to further complicate matters. The film treats the sport of baseball with a sort of casual reverence, highlighting both the drama and the humor inherent in the game, illustrated by Annie's numerous references to baseball as "her religion.", Witty drama about a free-spirited baseball devotee who chooses one promising player from her local minor-league team each year for some intimate personal coaching. But she has a hard time picking her man when the Durham Bulls' new season brings her a brilliant but undisciplined rookie and a mature but fading veteran of the game, Comedy drama about a romantic triangle set against the backdrop of minor league baseball. Susan Sarandon is a baseball fan, almost religiously devoted to the sport. Every season, she choses a newcomer to her local team, the Durham Bulls, to sleep with, read poetry to and coach in her own inimitable style. However, this year things are different and she finds herself forced to choose between an undisciplined rookie (Tim Robbins) and a hardened and mature veteran of the game (Kevin Costner).
