Movie
Bruce Almighty
Synopsis
Six years since they worked together on Liar Liar, and nearly a decade after Ace Ventura: Pet Detective placed them on the Hollywood A-list, director Tom Shadyac and Jim Carrey re-team once again for this high-concept fantasy comedy, the first film for both since making the non-comedic missteps Dragonfly and The Majestic, respectively. Carrey stars as television reporter Bruce Nolan. Despite his status as a well-liked minor celebrity and the unconditional love of his beautiful girlfriend, Grace (Jennifer Aniston), Bruce can't seem to shake his dissatisfaction with the shortfalls of his everyday life. After an exceptionally misfortune-filled day, Bruce turns to the sky and lays into God, accusing Him of doing a poor job of running things on Earth. Bruce is so vehement that God (Morgan Freeman) transports Bruce to his office and makes him a once-in-a-lifetime offer. If Bruce thinks He is so inadequate, God tells him that he'll bestow omnipotence upon Bruce for 24 hours. However, if by the end of that period of time Bruce is unsuccessful in his attempts to make the world a better place, as a consequence, God will inflict a cataclysm upon Earth that will revert things back to the Dark Ages. Written by Steve Koren and Mark O'Keefe, Bruce Almighty features supporting performances by Steve Carrell, Philip Baker Hall, and Eddie Jemison.
