Synopsis
Famed martial arts star Jet Li takes a rare turn in the directors chair with this gritty, passionately xenophobic martial arts flick. Set at the close of World War II, China is awash with hordes of thuggish, bumptious American GI intent on drunken benders and terrorizing the local population. One young Chinese lad, who also happens to be a martial arts ace, decides to stand up to these uncouth barbarians. After cleaning the floor with one such GI in a boxing match, he gives the prize money to the poor and becomes a rickshaw driver. When the Americans smash up his livelihood, he gets suckered into being a sparring partner for the Navy. He and a large corn-fed Captain who is himself a crack kung fu master engage in a prolong match that ultimately ends in a riot. Our hero manages to escape but the bloodthirsty Americans kill two of his friends and frame him for the murder.
