Bagdad Cafe

Marianne Sagebrecht is Jasmin, a prim German housefrau who, for unexpected reasons, fetches up at the Bagdad Café, a rundown motel/truck stop run by Brenda. Setting about her with a vengeance, Jasmin starts imposing cleanliness and order (and gaining customers) but along the way, she starts to loosen up until, one night, she reveals a magical talent that leads to greater things for the unlikely pair. Percy Adlon's film mixes hope with occasional bleakness but in all, creates a film about being prepared to change while still remaining true to yourself.
