Synopsis
Mario Van Peebles directs and stars in How to Get the Man's Foot Outta Your Asss!, a critical dramatic tribute to his father's pioneering film Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song. In the early '70s, young filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles (played by son Mario) tries to get funding for his next feature film. With no help from the studios or his agent Howie (Saul Rubinek), he assembles an amateur crew and self-finances the film that would kick-start both the Blaxploitation genre and the American independent film movement. Joy Bryant, Ossie Davis, and David Alan Grier star as some of the real-life figures involved in the production. Excerpts from the original film appear, as well, as do re-creations and interviews. How to Get the Man's Foot Outta Your Asss! was shown at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival and the 2004 Sundance Film Festival..
