Awakenings
Synopsis
Robert de Niro, in an Oscar-nominated performance, plays Leonard Lowe, who has been in a catatonic state since his early teens. Now an adult, he and dozens of fellow sufferers have been languishing in a Bronx hospital for decades, apparently incurable. However, in the mid '60s, a new doctor (Robin Williams) tries a revolutionary drug treatment which, amazingly, awakens the patients and gives them back their lives. But is the miracle all that it seems? Based on a true story. Also stars Julie Kavner (the voice of Marge from The Simpsons).
