Die Handlung spielt im Jahr 1918, Schauplatz ist die syrische Front. Dort hält Hauptmann Schulz mit einer kleinen Truppe ein Fort gegen arabische Wüstenstämme. Er schickt Leutnant Keller mit einigen Leuten nach Damaskus, denn sie brauchen dringend Lebensmittel.
