How Long Is “All Things Fair”?

A teenage boy has his first adult romance in this moving Swedish drama set in a boy's school during WW II. Sweden was neutral then and was spared the fighting. Stig is a 15-year-old who has just arrived from Stockholm. One of the first people who catches his eye is beautiful Viola, his 37-year-old instructor. Soon she makes it plain that she too finds him attractive. Knowing that it is wrong and could destroy them, the two begin a passionate affair. As time passes, Stig also becomes friends with her chronically depressed, alcoholic husband, Frank, who knows all about the affair and does nothing to stop it. As Stig's friend, he teaches the boy much about classical music. In return Stig listens to Franks sob stories. One day, Stig decides to end his affair with Viola. She becomes violent. Stig retaliates and then leaves.
