Abuelo
Synopsis
In this short drama, Emily (Britt Flatmo) is a twelve-year-old girl who has sunk into a deep depression after the death of her mother. Emily's father (Greg Baglia) tries to help her with her troubles, but nothing seems to work, and she becomes even more petulant when her grandfather Abuelo (Castulo Guerra) arrives from Argentina for a visit. Emily has a hard time communicating with Abuelo and isn't very interested in what he has to say, but she begins to warm to her grandfather when he introduces her to the magic of Latin dancing and its celebration of the joy of life. Abuelo was the first directorial project from veteran choreographer Mary Ann Kellogg, and received the Montgomery Award for Best Film From An Emerging Director at the 2009 Chicago International Children's Film Festival.
